The Stairwell Gallery at The Fairfield University Bookstore will be exhibiting the Multi-Media works of Black Rock Artist/Designer, Lee Walther, during the month of September.
New photographs will be shown for the first time along with her multi-use collaged mirrors and bejeweled images of female torsos on aluminum.
Lee writes: "My intention when creating original FUNctional works of art, such as the removable and replaceable components to my collaged mirrors and side tables, has been to offer the opportunity for the Collector to ‘co-create’ with me by adding or exchanging something of their own to make it, in part, ‘their’ creation...
The Goddess series started out as a collaged torso sculpture
which I later photographed and printed on an aluminum
substrate and, later again, morphed into a “mixed media photograph” by adding vintage jewelry and other components to the surface of the image creating a depth to the photo.
The Mixed Media Collaged Mirrors always have elements that are integral to the concept and composition of the work, whether chakra crystals for an associated image, removable and interchangeable jewelry or items relating to subject matter, charm or necklace, it is a little gift from me to you.
The subjects of my Photographs come as a gift of awareness, wonderful offerings that come into my view which may not have been seen by others. I have photographed amazing faces in the trunks and limbs of trees that inspired the writing of a beautiful poem. I created the composition in the photo, MORNING GIFTS, from ‘produce’ I randomly collected during an early morning walk...(Like in Beauty and the Beast?) With my camera, I am able to capture the humor and beauty I see."
I am so grateful to my dear Grandmother, a professional photographer, who taught me how to observe...to look...to see. I hope some of my work speaks to you. ~ Lee Walther
