Gregory Maqoma, a South African choreographer, creates a unique work called Broken Chord. The piece tells the story of a South African chorus whose tour in the late 19th century was marred by racism. The piece concretizes the burden of the white gaze and explores the experience of moving beyond the constricting box it constructs. Maqoma collaborates with Musical Director Thuthuka Sibisi, who started his career at the Drakensberg Boys Choir School. Broken Chord explores past and present issues of borders, migration, and identity.
