Description

As part of its "Backyard Gardening" series, the Bartlett Arboretum presents Erin Backus speaking on "Horticultural Therapy."

Horticultural Therapy is a process of using plants, directed by a horticultural therapist, through which people receive psychological, physical, social and/or educational benefits.

Erin Backus will share the benefits of human interaction with plants and gardens.

ABOUT ERIN BACKUS:
Erin holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Plant Science from SUNY Cobleskill and a Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling SUNYBuffalo. She is a nationally Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and a Professionally Registered Horticultural Therapist.

Erin works at Silver Hills Hospital as their Horticultural Therapist, New York Botanical Garden as a teacher in their HT certificate program and is the owner of Plant Happiness, LLC. She volunteers her time as the President of the Northeast Horticultural Therapy Network, Board member of the American Horticultural Therapy Association and a Butterfly consultant for the Pawling Nature Reserve in Pawling, NY.

Erin has done numerous internships at places such as: Longwood Gardens, New England Wild Flower Society, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, State of Connecticut Bureau of Rehabilitation Services & Arms Areas. Originally from the Catskill Mountains in NY Erin currently resides in Norwalk, CT.
