Description

ICC (The India Cultural Center) of Greenwich presents Junctures and Constellations: India and North America Contemporary Art from India and the Diaspora at the Greenwich Arts Council's Bendheim Gallery.

Opening Cocktail Reception & Art Conversation Wed., Feb. 13, 6:30 to 9:00pm
(snow date Mon., Feb. 18)

The exhibit will feature works of contemporary Indian artists working in indigenous traditions of Warli and Madhubani art and three artists from the Indian diaspora whose watercolors, acrylic, mixed media and oil paintings reflect the influence of the Indian sensibility in color, subject and culture. Local artists exhibiting are Meera Agarwal, Pratibha Garawal, Prachi Khade-Gurjar, Madhu Mathur, and Chitra Ramcharandas.

Professor Kathryn Myers, Professor of Painting at UConn and 2002 and 2011 Fulbright Scholar in India, is loaning the works of Mahalaxmi Karn, Santosh Kumar Das, Rani Jha and Naresh Kumar Paswan. Professor Myers will address how art of the Indian diaspora opens up a fresh way of viewing Indian traditions and how indigenous artists and contemporary artists are traversing cultural boundaries to forge new paths.

ICC thanks Cap, Cork and Cellar for donating the wine for the reception.
