Description

The Loft Artists Association is hosting its annual new member show, “New Year - New Artists” in the Loft Gallery at 575 Pacific Street from Saturday, January 8 through Sunday, February 6, 2022, with an Opening Reception on Sunday, January 16, from 2-4 PM.
“This year’s exhibit will highlight the work of 7 diverse and professional artists new to the LAA over the past two years,” Director, Mark Macrides stated. “We’re excited to be welcoming to the organization talented new artists from area communities. Each of these artists brings a unique style and body of work to the LAA, as well as established profiles in the local art communities, including Stamford and Greenwich, CT and Hartsdale, NY.”

New to Stamford, artist Millie Jackson Rowe is inspired by the colours people create and the shapes they leave behind. She questions what society tells us is normal through her use of geometric abstraction, photography, assemblage and fabric art. Chris Hansen is a Stamford local that promotes his city through his photography page @stamfordatnight. His photographic work has focused
mainly on landscapes and engaging images that ultimately translates his inner vision and thinking. Also from Stamford, Sandra Stadtmiller describes her current body of work as generally expressionistic. Multiple layers of texture and paint are critical to her paintings. Her initial thought is often a word - happy, empty, energetic, beautiful, trapped, time.

Greenwich artist Julie DiBiase finds photographic opportunities anywhere. Her subject matter ranges from intimate landscapes and still life to architectural elements. The majority of her works are numbered and signed limited editions and have been accepted into numerous juried exhibits. Almudena Fernandez Vicens resides in Greenwich and tends to create abstract landscapes that are not specific locales but imagined places. She uses textured surfaces and materials that she manipulates to
interact with each other. She also loves printmaking and has been creating monotypes for the past few years. Catalan artist Angels Grau, who currently lives in Greenwich, creates large paintings full of life and warmth. “The line at which the earth'ssurface and the sky appear to meet becomes a
balm for the heart. Saudade is represented in textures, intense colors, strong and desperate strokes and poems that inspire each of the works.”
Erica Stoller from Hartsdale, NY is a sculptor and installation artist working with a variety of unexpected, repurposed materials. From hula hoops and swimming noodles, to industrial components for plumbing and electrical work, the color, shape, and texture of the elements becomes the subject matter. The LAA show includes several recent wall pieces of cardboard and paper. With artist’s
books in mind, this series considers the materiality of the paper as the
storyline.
