Margot Bittenbender is a Connecticut artist who draws her inspiration from Asian culture. Don’t miss this opportunity to view her collection of exquisitely masterful and conceptually driven work that will transport you to another world. Join us March 20, from 5-7pm for the artist’s reception.
“My image-making is a reaction to both the physical and spiritual world around me. What I see and what I feel meld into a timeless moment that is captured in the copper plate and eventually inked and impressed into paper. Intaglio provides a surprisingly fluid and changeable process that alters the initial image and feeling, despite the hardness and seemingly unyielding surface of the metal plate itself.
Sources of imagery include the familiar faces and objects of family and home and garden, as well as the mysterious lives embodied in puppets and dolls, especially those of Asia, where I lived for 14 years and often return. My most recent series explored the magic of Alice had she emerged in a Japanese Wonderland. I am more interested in man-made objects as symbols of cultures than in nature itself.”
