Mexican composer Daniel Catán's 1996 opera, Florencia Grimaldi, is a Spanish-language opera inspired by Gabriel García Márquez's magical realism. The Met premiere features soprano Ailyn Pérez as Florencia, in a new production by Mary Zimmerman. The ensemble portrays Florencia's fellow travelers on a river boat to Manaus, including Gabriella Reyes as Rosalba, Greer Grimsley as the captain, Olivieri as his first mate, Chang as the captain's nephew, and Paula and Álvaro as the feuding couple.
