Description

The Avon Theatre presents an 80th Anniversary screening of 1939 classic film THE WIZARD OF OZ. This fun evening includes a costume contest with prizes!
Widely considered to be one the greatest films in cinema history, THE WIZARD OF OZ is an adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s 1900 children’s book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Judy Garland stars as Dorothy, an innocent girl who is swept away from a farm in Kansas by a tornado and lands in the magical land of Oz. With the help of her new friends, the scarecrow, the lion and the tinman, she embarks on a quest to see the Wizard of Oz who can help her return home to Kansas. Known for its legendary use of Technicolor, the film has become an icon of American popular culture. THE WIZARD OF OZ was nominated for six Academy® Awards, including Best Picture, and won Best Original Song for “Over the Rainbow”.
