Description

The Westport Library is thrilled to announce VersoFest 2022, a first-of-its-kind, immersive three-day festival and conference on Friday, April 8th, Saturday, April 9th, and Sunday, April 10th. VersoFest will provide creatives, artists, and fans with the opportunity to explore music and media in an intimate and unique environment.

VersoFest is an extension of Verso Studios, a media resource and production hub, serving as an inclusive, empowered, future-forward, cultural and learning center.

On Friday, April 8th, Lez Zeppelin, the all-women Led Zeppelin tribute band, will kick off the festival. Heralded as “the most powerful all-female band in rock history” by Spin Magazine, endorsed by Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, Lez Zeppelin delivers the legendary rock band’s blistering arrangements and monstrous sound note-for-note at sold-out frenzied shows around the world.

On Saturday April 9th, VersoFest attendees will participate in panels and workshops featuring Grammy award winners, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, actor and movie studio executive, legendary journalists, and world-famous songwriters.

Michael Jai White has played heroes and role models in over 100 films and television shows. Now this Brooklyn born, Bridgeport raised actor, writer, and director is building an international film and television production center in the Fair Haven section of New Haven. In his keynote address, Michael will discuss his life, career, and vision for Jaigantic Studios.

Mastering engineer and first female Grammy Award winner for Best Engineered Album, Emily Lazar, Datwon Thomas, the Editor-In-Chief of VIBE Magazine and Vice President of Cultural Media for MRC, and Travis Bell, Verso Studios own acclaimed audio engineer and producer, will appear on a panel focused on the foundations of music production moderated by music and digital executive, Dick Wingate.

Hands-on workshops will be conducted by: Joe Hagan, writer of the lauded Sticky Fingers: The Life and Times of Jann Wenner and correspondent for Vanity Fair, The New York Times, Rolling Stone; country music singer and award-winning songwriter Drew Smith; Joe Bouchard, co-founder of Blue Oyster Cult; and global hip-hop legend Dooley-O.

Talking Head fans will get a twofer at VersoFest! In the afternoon, Chris Frantz will join WPKN FM radio’s General Manager, Steve DiCostanzo, in a live streamed conversation stemming from Frantz’s recently released memoir “Remain in Love.”

Saturday evening, Chris Frantz Presents Emerging Artists will showcase Enid Ze, a futuristic, low-key African pop band from Bridgeport, CT. Their debut album Better is Gold was produced by renown composer/producer/gear enthusiast Chris Ruggiero. Daniprobably, an indie rock band with a pop edge from New Haven, opens.

Sunday’s bagel brunch will feature Westport’s own widely popular author Jane Green. Author of twenty-one novels, including eighteen New York Times bestsellers, one cookbook, and various short stories, Green’s new novel Sister Stardust re-imagines the life of troubled icon Talitha Getty, a transporting story from a forgotten chapter of the Swinging '60s set to the Rolling Stones travels and travails in Marrakesh.

Soul music Renaissance woman, Joshie Jo Armstead, former Ikette, recording artist, label owner, hit songwriter and more, will be interviewed by Beehive Queen and resident SNL singing tour de force, Christine Ohlman.

The final performance of the festival is the highly acclaimed, groundbreaking young blues visionary Selwyn Birchwood. In addition to Selwyn’s electrifying guitar and lap steel playing, the group is rounded out by a baritone sax, bass, drums, and keyboard player. Rolling Stone boasts, Selwyn Birchwood is "a remarkable, contemporary bluesman...a powerhouse young guitarist and soulful vocalist...a major player...highly recommended."
