Call for Artists! Help Beautify Fairfield’s Utility Cabinets!
The Fairfield Arts Commission is launching a campaign to beautify utility cabinets through public art. Utility cabinets, located at signalized intersections, house the components that power traffic signal lights. Their prominent locations and blank metal surfaces provide an ideal canvas for public art, providing opportunities for local artists and creating a more vibrant and visually appealing streetscape. The Fairfield Arts Commission is looking to identify up to four (4) cabinet locations as well as sponsors as part of an initial pilot program.
The Fairfield Arts Commission invites local artists to submit original artwork by January 23, 2026 for consideration for the first three (3) utility cabinet locations. Selected designs will be professionally printed and wrapped around designated utility cabinets. The Fairfield Arts Commission will be responsible for securing the necessary permits as well as the costs associated with the fabrication and installation of the vinyl wraps. All artwork will need to comply with guidelines for aesthetic objects and treatments within CTDOT rights of way. For more details on how to respond, please check out the Call for Artists for more information.
