MFA Art Practice Students Exhibit in Public Private

Janine Brown is exhibiting two pieces in the exhibition Public Private at the SVA Flatiron Gallery, 133/141 W. 21st Street, New York City, NY. The exhibition will run from July 13th – July 30th with an opening reception on Thursday, July 14th from 6-8pm. Using “I am” statements, Brown seeks to redefine subjectivity from a multiplicity of perspectives by calling upon the power of shared discourse. In her sound piece, Who am I?, one becomes aurally surrounded by individuals declaring “I am…” statements, some mundane and others poignant, overlap, complement and conflict with one another. In her diptych, I Am Watching You/I Am Not Amused she questions the local, regional and world events today.
