The Ferguson Library in Stamford, CT. is seeking a creative, detail-oriented Part Time Graphic Designer to manage visual communication across print and digital media. This role is responsible for maintaining brand standards while producing engaging marketing collateral for library programs, fundraising events, affiliate groups, and community outreach. The ideal candidate brings strong layout skills, experience marketing to diverse audiences, and a collaborative approach to workflow and production.

The Ferguson Library strives to be an anti-racist and equitable organization. Our staff are people with different strengths, experiences and backgrounds, who share a passion for improving people’s lives through education, resources and services. Diversity not only includes race and gender expression but also age, disability status, veteran status, sexual orientation, religious beliefs and many other parts of one’s identity. We are deliberate and self-reflective about the kind of culture and workplace we aspire to create.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design & Production

  • Publications & Layouts: Design and produce monthly publications—including the Spotlight newsletter and Youth Services Focus—as well as the library’s multi-page Annual Report (up to 28 pages).

  • Promotional Collateral: Create print and digital assets (posters, flyers, banners, TV monitor graphics, web graphics, letterhead, and business cards) for library services, public programs, and events.

  • Affiliate & Fundraising Support: Develop dedicated collateral for the Friends of Ferguson, the Ferguson Foundation, and the Friends Book Shop, as well as fundraising materials for major events such as A Novel Affair.

  • Environmental & Signage Assets: Create indoor/outdoor signage, interior department displays, and special environmental graphics as assigned.

Workflow & Brand Management

  • Brand Stewardship: Maintain consistent brand identity across all library initiatives, departments, and communication channels.

  • Project Coordination & Delegation: Manage project requests from intake through final approval, delegating digital and web-specific tasks to the part-time web designer when appropriate to balance team workflow.

  • Review & Proofing: Submit proofing drafts to the marketing team for review, incorporate feedback, and secure final approvals prior to production.

  • Print Production & Distribution: Interface directly with print vendors and oversee in-house printing, prepress standards, and material distribution.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field.

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience working in a professional design setting, art department, or equivalent work experience.

  • Community Focus: Demonstrated track record of designing effective marketing materials for broad, culturally diverse community audiences.

  • Time & Project Management: Exceptional organizational skills with proven ability to meet tight monthly deadlines, prioritize multiple assignments, and work independently.

  • Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate across library departments, branches, and leadership.

  • Social media experience a plus

 TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Essential Software: Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (specifically InDesign and Photoshop).

  • Preferred Tools: Experience using project management software (e.g., Asana) and managing prepress/print vendor relations.
