A physician/artist for the past 40 years, Demitri Papolos formally studied at the Museum School of Fine Arts in Boston, before pursuing a career in medicine. For years his primary interest was in painting on canvas but was captured by monoprinting because of the unique translucency of the medium that creates a quality of light very different from a painting on paper or a print. The beauty of this media is its spontaneity and the unique ability to combine printmaking, painting and drawing mediums.
Demitri has been making monoprints and mixed media works for the past decade at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk, and in his studio in Westport. He has studied with master printmakers, Ron Pokrasso in Santa Fe, and Gerardo Rivera at the Instituto de Allende in San Miguel De Allende, Mexico. His works are in private collections around the country.
Most recently he has started making 3-D multi-media collages with multi-colored string, wire, paper, cardboard, wood and a variety of mediums
His studio is in his home, which also serves as a gallery. All are welcome by appointment.
