Housatonic Community College (HCC) serves the residents and businesses of the Greater Bridgeport region with innovative educational programming and relevant social and cultural opportunities. Each year, more than 7,000 individuals choose from over 60 accredited degree and certificate programs, which they take for college credit, professional development, and personal enrichment. The college awards associate degrees and certificates in academic programs that transfer to four-year universities, along with career-track programs in manufacturing, health care, business, and more.
Housatonic Community College has always been at the forefront as a community college of distinction. It was the first community college in the nation to become a certified Carnegie STEM Excellence Pathway Provider. It was also the first community college in the state to be designated as an Achieving the Dream Leader Institution by the Lumina Foundation, and to be distinguished as one of the Aspen Institute’s Top 150 Community Colleges in the Nation. Since the beginning, HCC’s outstanding and professionally active, and responsive faculty and dedicated staff have made a difference.
The faculty at Housatonic is comprised of authors, scientists, actors, entrepreneurs, musicians, artists, historians, researchers, journalists, manufacturers, and medical professionals who dedicate their expertise to preparing the next generation of professionals.
Over the years, HCC Alumni have gone the distance. HCC graduates transfer to top-tier colleges and universities and have become successful entrepreneurs, superior court judges, doctors, public leaders, teachers, CEOs, artists, and Emmy-award-winning actors.
One of the greatest treasures on our campus is the Housatonic Museum of Art founded in 1967 with works donated by artists and collectors under the leadership of Burt Chernow, Art Historian, and HCC Art Professor. The HMA is one of the largest permanent collections of any two-year college in the United States.
