Lesley Koenig’s paintings are characterized by a concentration on the interrelations between color, texture, form and spirituality. A self taught abstract expressionist, Koenig was born in New York City and began painting at age six when she was given a watercolor set. The act of setting a loaded brush to a surface was like a spiritual awakening which proclaimed her life's path. The mark had been made, inside and out!
Koenig has exhibited in over 75 juried group and solo shows in the Greater New York Metro area since her professional debut in 2013. She received an Award of Merit in 2014 for one of her first paintings and was juried into The National Association of Women Artists in 2016. Her originals and reproductions are available internationally.
Originally planning to become an illustrator, in high school, after winning a full scholarship in a 7 state East Coast design competition, Koenig segued into fashion. Working in that field instilled her with a great sense of line, color, proportion and texture; the necessary ingredients to continuously produce paintings that are unique and stimulating.
Following that career, one day in 2013, Koenig spontaneously started painting abstracts. This reignited the initial connection to color and paint she had first experienced long ago. Immediately, she began entering her work in shows.
In 2016 Koenig acquired a studio to paint in her preferred, large format style. She works daily with the purpose of making paintings that are spiritual safe havens in which people can momentarily unplug from the world and reconnect with themselves.
Koenig lives in Fairfield County CT with her husband and two children, who are also artists.
