TEAM Westport (Together Effectively Achieving Multiculturalism) was established as an appointed board of the Town of Westport, to achieve “a more welcoming, multicultural community.” As a town committee, TEAM Westport does not raise funds and currently has no funding from the Town of Westport, rather the Friends of TEAM Westport is the organization supporting TEAM Westport – the official town committee focused on achieving, celebrating and extending diversity re: race, ethnicity, religion, LGBTQI and gender presentation in Westport, CT. Its ultimate aim is to extend TEAM Westport engagement and impact to the neighborhood level.

Members of TEAM Westport identify a need and design a program to address it. Examples include the annual MLK Event with nationally prominent lecturers, “Community Conversations on Race”, and the annual Teen Diversity Essay Contest

TEAM Westport representatives work with other organizations and institutions to design and execute joint programs and activities. The town’s Board of Education is committed to working with TEAM Westport in implementing its diversity Strategy and plans.

We work with Westport Playhouse, Westport Library , Interfaith Clergy and Interfaith Council to conduct the annual MLK Event with nationally prominent speakers.

In 2006 TEAM Westport joined with the Westport Public Library, Westport Country Playhouse, Westport Arts Center and the town’s Department of Human Services to develop an innovative three-week series of panel discussions, plays, art exhibits, music and cooking to promote teaching about civil rights issues at Staples High School.
