Veronica Hofstetter, is a native Westport CT resident and a life long artist, whose familial Swedish and Argentinian roots provided a deep curiosity and strong gravitation towards art, nature, culture, travel and design history. Before focusing on art full time, she was the owner of Navia Collection, a Scandinavian art and antique import and interior design firm.
As a mixed media abstract expressionist artist, she possesses a desire to work with her hands to create and communicate in a visual language. Often utilizing the interplay of layers of paint and brush strokes printed on paper as graphic collage elements on canvas, she experiments with outcomes of texture and depth while seeking visually stimulating & balanced compositions.
Her collage works meditate on transformation, through the use of found materials from the everyday, they translate the beauty of the mundane and in the process, the elements are transformed to express and discover conceptual and abstract ideas, moods and feelings. The discarded paper, artifacts of daily life, are used as layered surfaces and inform part of a larger conversation through the process and action of applying layers of paper, glue and brushstrokes of paint. The act of peeling away the layers to reveal unknown outcomes, is an expression of letting go to the
unknown and on the flux and flow of nature.
Utilizing the graphic contrast of black and white printmaking her collages employ prints of graphic brush strokes, painted onto paper or canvas to maximize the graphic lines within each brush stroke on paper. The
superimposed brushstrokes printed on paper connected to the brush strokes on canvas, and the layering of the printed paper results in newly constructed compositions which respond, react and reflect upon each other.
Veronica is inspired by nature, emotion and her identity as a woman and mother, and is equally inspired by elements that are light, beautiful and peaceful as by elements that are dark, gritty, bold and graphic. The interplay between both is the channel to her observations on composition, color, shape and texture and are symbolic to her sense of visual healing, freedom and spirit.
