SavorCity: Star Istanbul

REGISTRATION DEADLINE TODAY WEDS 5pm for reserving a seat for Fri. Nov. 8, at SavorCity, our monthly tour of Bridgeport restaurants, food, art and music, showcasing the cultural delights and hidden gems of Connecticut’s most diverse city.

Our 8th visit is to Star Istanbul at 29 Markle Court in Downtown Bridgeport. The prix-fixe Turkish buffet will cost $35 (includes a corkage fee – BYOB) – payable as you enter.

This edition of SavorCity is being held in conjunction with the Bridgeport Art Trail, an arts celebration weekend with city-wide open studios that attracts 3500+ attendees annually.

Star Istanbul is the culmination of more than 25 years of experience in the restaurant business by its proud owner Helim Yildiz. Yildiz first came to the U.S. from Turkey in 1986 at the age of 23. He started in Stamford and has owned a deli, a Turkish Restaurant on Main Sreet, Bridgeport (Istanbul Restaurant), and Acropolis Pizza and Family Restaurant in Stratford. But he yearded to open another Turkish restaurant and decided to try Bridgeport again: “I like the location, and I like the opportunity of downtown Bridgeport,” Yildiz said. “I love the food and I love the people.”

The restaurant has a 4.5 star rating on Yelp: Some comments:

“Big plates, affordable prices, tasty food, great choice of both, meat dishes and vegetarian. Recommend! Especially for Turkish cuisine lovers.”

“During a night in Bridgeport we tried this little gem. We were warmly greeted by the owner who made our meal himself. I had the mixed cold appetizers. Every single one was awesome. The bread is perfect. The rice is perfect. My husband had the mixed grill which he loved. Bridgeport is lucky to have this place.”
