Why Civic Participation Matters to Arts & Culture
That's why civic engagement matters.
Whether you’re an artist, an audience member, a parent, a business owner, an educator, or someone who simply believes creativity makes communities stronger, your voice belongs in the conversation.
Contact your local, state, and federal representatives. Attend a town meeting. Ask candidates how they plan to support a thriving creative community. Let them know that arts and culture are among the issues you consider when deciding who will represent you. When elected leaders hear consistently that the arts matter to the people they serve, they’re better equipped to understand their importance to community life.
Tell them how the arts have shaped your life. Share how a local theater, museum, library, arts class, concert, festival, or creative space has strengthened your community or your family. Personal stories often have the greatest impact because they illustrate how public decisions affect real people.
Let them know that thriving arts organizations, creative businesses, arts education, public art, historic preservation, libraries, museums, and cultural spaces are part of the future you want to help build.
You don’t have to agree on every issue to agree that arts and culture deserve a place in conversations about the future of our communities.
When artists, audiences, educators, cultural organizations, and community members speak with one voice about the value of the arts, elected leaders take notice. Help ensure that arts and culture remain part of the decisions that shape Fairfield County’s future.
